This guide from Amethyst Driving School (Brooklyn) explains exactly what you need before joining your
5-hour online Zoom class — so you don’t get removed for technical reasons and you receive your certificate without delays.
What Is the 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course?
The 5-hour pre-licensing course is a required New York DMV step for new drivers before scheduling a road test.
It covers safety, defensive driving, traffic laws, and risk awareness.
After completion, you receive the official Pre-Licensing Certificate (MV-278) (or the digital equivalent),
which is needed to book your DMV road test.
