Mastering parallel parking is easier than it seems when broken down into five clear steps. Follow this simple method to park safely and confidently in tight spaces.
Step 1: Align Your Car
Pull up next to the car in front of the empty space. Keep a distance of about 2–3 feet from the parked car, aligning your rear bumpers.
Step 2: Begin Reversing with the Wheel Turned Right
Slowly reverse while turning your steering wheel all the way to the right. Your car should begin to angle into the space behind the front vehicle.
Step 3: Straighten the Wheel
When your car reaches a 45-degree angle and the front of your car clears the rear of the car ahead, straighten your steering wheel and continue reversing.
Step 4: Turn the Wheel Left to Enter Fully
As your car moves further into the space, turn the steering wheel left to straighten your vehicle. Back up until your car is parallel with the curb.
Step 5: Center and Adjust
Move slightly forward or backward to center your vehicle in the space. Make sure you’re not too far from the curb and there’s enough room between both cars.
